What is the difference between gL and gG characteristics?

Historically, gL stood for cable and line protection, while gG was for general purpose applications. According to the current IEC standard, the gG class has replaced the gL class, and they are now considered equivalent for most applications. They both provide full-range protection against overload and short-circuit currents.

While some AC fuses can be used in DC circuits, their breaking capacity and voltage rating are significantly de-rated. It is critical to consult the manufacturer's datasheet for specific DC application guidelines. Using it outside of its specified AC rating without verification is not recommended.
