The LA4KE1FC is an RC (Resistor-Capacitor) surge suppressor. It is connected across the coil terminals (A1 and A2) to dampen high-voltage spikes that occur when the contactor coil is de-energized, protecting sensitive control electronics like PLC outputs.

While primarily designed for AC loads (AC-3 rating), TeSys K contactors can be used for some DC applications (DC-1, DC-3, DC-5). However, the rated current is significantly lower for DC, and the electrical life is reduced. Always consult the official Schneider Electric datasheet for specific DC ratings before use.

Ith (20A) is the conventional free air thermal current, which is the maximum current the contactor can carry continuously without overheating. The AC-3 rating (6A) is the operational current for switching squirrel-cage induction motors, which is a more demanding, inductive load. You must use the AC-3 rating for motor applications.
