FAQ

What is the difference between FPM (Viton) and NBR material for a shaft seal?

FPM, also known as Viton, offers superior resistance to high temperatures (up to 200 deg C) and a wider range of chemicals, oils, and fuels compared to NBR (Nitrile). NBR is a good general-purpose material but is typically limited to around 100-120 deg C and is less resistant to aggressive chemicals. Choose FPM for demanding applications.

The 'AS' designation refers to the seal's cross-sectional design. It features a rubber-covered outer diameter, a primary spring-loaded sealing lip to retain lubricant, and an additional, non-spring-loaded dust lip to prevent external contaminants like dust and dirt from entering the system. This design is also commonly referred to as WAS or TC by other manufacturers.

Proper installation is key to seal performance. Ensure the shaft surface finish is smooth (Ra 0.2 to 0.8 micrometers) and free of nicks or scratches.
