FAQ

The output speed is adjusted manually using the black handwheel on top of the blue Motovario SF 005 C variator. Turning the wheel changes the gear ratio within the variator, which in turn alters the input speed to the main NORD gearbox, thus controlling the final output RPM.

The assembly requires specific lubricants for each section. The NORD SK 373.1 gearbox uses ISO VG 220 mineral oil (CLP 220). The Motovario SF 005 C variator requires a specific traction fluid, such as ENI Blasia 32, as indicated on its label. The Brook Crompton motor bearings are typically lubricated for life.

While the Brook Crompton motor itself is inverter-duty capable, using a VFD to control the speed of this specific assembly is not recommended. The mechanical variator is designed to operate with a constant input speed from the motor. Varying the motor's speed with a VFD could lead to improper operation or damage to the variator's traction components. The speed should be adjusted mechanically via the handwheel.
