FAQ

What is the difference between NBR and Viton (FKM) seals?

NBR (Nitrile) is a standard material with good resistance to mineral oils and greases, suitable for temperatures up to 100 deg C. Viton (FKM) offers superior resistance to a wider range of chemicals and can withstand much higher temperatures, typically up to 200 deg C, but is more expensive.

The label says 'WAS' but the seal is marked 'TC'. Are they compatible?

Yes, WAS (DIN 3760 Form A) and TC are designations for very similar types of seals: a rubber-covered metal case with a spring-loaded sealing lip. They are generally considered interchangeable for most applications.

What is the purpose of the garter spring?

The garter spring is a coiled steel spring that fits into a groove in the sealing lip. It applies a constant, uniform radial force, pressing the lip against the shaft to maintain a tight seal, even with minor shaft imperfections, thermal expansion, or wear over time.
