FAQ

A Taconite seal offers a much higher level of protection. It creates a complex, grease-filled path (a labyrinth) that makes it extremely difficult for contaminants to reach the bearing, making it superior for dusty and wet environments where simpler seals would fail.

Labyrinth seals like the LDZ 509 are generally excellent for high-speed applications because they are non-contact seals, meaning there is no friction or heat generation from the seal lip rubbing on the shaft, which can be a limiting factor for contact seals.

It is recommended to use a grease compatible with the bearing grease, typically a lithium-based NLGI 2 or 3 grease. The grease acts as an additional barrier against contamination and should be periodically purged and replenished via the grease nipple on the housing.
