What is the function of the small ASCO solenoid valve on top of the actuator?

The ASCO solenoid valve is a pilot valve. It directs the compressed air into the correct ports of the El-O-Matic actuator to either open or close the main ball valve, allowing for electrical control of the pneumatic system.
